The family of Richard John Klino (Rick) is saddened to share the news of his passing after several years of suffering from congestive heart and liver failure. 

Born in Detroit, MI to Norman John Klino and Doris Heydenburg Klino, Rick was the 4th of 6 children.  He was an enterprising, dedicated and energetic man who, in 1958 at the age of 10 years inherited his two older brothers’ Detroit News paper routes totaling 150 customers until the family moved to San Jose, California in November 1961. In 1962, he delivered the San Jose Mercury News. During that summer, a customer gave him a black puppy named Freddie that became Rick’s special friend when Doris Klino suddenly died in August 1962. 

Rick attended Leigh High School, San Jose, CA during his freshman year. Later, he moved to Campbell, CA with his brother Norm and graduated from Campbell, High School in 1966. He inherited his father’s natural ability for the machinist trade, and after a few years was hired as a journeyman machinist at Lawrence Livermore Lab, CA, retiring after 27 years. 

Rick and Paula Mintzmyer married in June 1977, and shortly thereafter, they bought a house in Livermore and later in Manteca, CA where they raised their three sons, Eric, Wes, and Kyle. The family enjoyed many vacations together especially camping and boating at Bullard’s Bar, CA. 

After his retirement, they bought and moved to a new house in Reno, NV., and in May 2018, set off on a long-awaited motorhome journey across the country. They visited relatives along the way, and Rick’s dream to visit Mackinac Island, MI finally came true although he had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure while visiting son Eric in Illinois. When Rick and Paula returned to Arizona, he underwent triple bypass heart surgery and later a new tricuspid valve clip procedure involving recent scientific developments by Abbott Labs and Phillips Corporation.  

During his many years coaching Little League Baseball in Manteca and as president, he dedicated his time enriching the community by improving baseball fields and facilities, and increasing opportunities for more youth to participate in sports.  He also found time to play men’s softball in Manteca for 28 years. Prior to his marriage to Paula, he raced his own 1955 blue and yellow Chevrolet stock car painted with the number 64. 

Predeceased by his parents, brothers Bill, Norman and Melvin, Rick is survived by his wife Paula of 47 years, sons Eric, Wes (Sirena), Kyle (Kari), 11 grandchildren, brother Roy (Susan), and sister Sharon Klino Sweeney. 

A memorial service will be held on June 18, 2025, time and place to be announced.
