It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Henry Romney Jr., on September 9, 2025 in Gilbert, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 56.

Richard’s name, of Germanic origin, means “brave ruler” or “powerful leader” and he truly embodied those descriptions. He showed us through his compassion, generosity and kindness what it means to live a life focused on family and faith.

Rick was born to Joan Maria Jesser Romney and Richard Henry Romney Sr., on March 1, 1969, in Long Beach, California. His younger sister, Lyndsae Beth Romney, was born August 20, 1977. Rick spent his early childhood years being raised near his grandparents in Long Beach, California.

Rick enjoyed his high school and young adult years in Orange County, California , where he met the love of his life, Heather Cobb, in La Palma, California. The night of their introduction, Rick quickly knew he had met the woman he was meant to marry. He couldn’t help but tell her that very evening.

Rick and Heather wed in 1991, in Tustin, California. Their son Noah Richard Romney, was born March 7, 1998 and their daughter Jacqueline Marie Romney, was born March 23, 1999. Rick was determined to work hard to support the family so that Heather could stay home with the children. They raised their family in Anaheim Hills and San Clemente, California, and later moved to Gilbert, Arizona. Rick’s children were undoubtedly his biggest pride and joy. He had a strong belief that family was everything.

Rick’s accomplishments included a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Cal State University, Long Beach. He went on to graduate from the Los Angeles Police Academy in October of 1990 and proudly served the Los Angeles Police Department for over 20 years.

Rick had a passion for firearms, fishing, hunting, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, grilling or smoking meats, the New England Patriots football team and a good natured prank. His love for the great outdoors led him to places like Alaska, Big Bear, Flagstaff and Colorado. He saw beautiful mountains and swam in lakes and rivers. Rick often spent nights marveling at the stars and moon, identifying constellations with his beloved family.

Above all, Rick will be remembered for his dedication to God, as a Disciple of Christ. His infectious smile and unmistakable laugh was as well known as his relationship with his lord and savior. Rick radiated love and kindness to every man, woman, child and animal he encountered. His gift for making others smile and laugh will live on in the memories of his family and friends.

His legacy will endure, reminding us that we are the one’s in control of our attitudes, our success and our destinies. Rick showed us a life of meaningful acts of love and service as Christ commands us.

Two days after Rick passed, Brady, his loyal dog of 14 years joined his dad in heaven. Our family is comforted knowing Rick’s canine best buddy is with him on his journey.

Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, August and Jacqueline Jesser; grandmother, Ann Romney; father-in- law, Al Cobb.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Heather Romney; son, Noah Romney; daughter, Jacqueline Romney; mother, Joan Jesser Romney; father, Richard Romney; sister, Lyndsae Romney.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm at
The Barn at Power Ranch.

Rick’s remains have been cremated and will be kept in care of his family.
