Ronald Legler Obituary

Ronald Legler passed away peacefully with his wife and four kids by his side December 16, 2023 after a short battle with colon cancer at the age of 77.

Ron was born to Pete and Margaret Legler October 27, 1946, in Volga, South Dakota. He spent his first four years of childhood in South Dakota and then the family moved to Wichita, Kansas. He went through elementary in Wichita where he was not a fan of the city. He would spend his summers in South Dakota with his grandparents. Ron helped them at Lake Norden where they had a small bait and hamburger place within the park. He also took numerous fishing trips with his Grandpa Eddie. The family moved to Colorado when he was in Junior High. Ron graduated from Douglas County High School in 1964 and after that attended Lamar Junior College, graduating in 1967. He went on to complete classes at Colorado State University before enlisting in the Navy. Ron received an honorable medical discharge from the Navy and returned to college receiving his business degree. He and his dad sold horse trailers in Colorado until they got an offer to sell the business. From there they moved to Arizona and started their horse trailer business, Imperial Trailer Sales, that Justin operates today.

In June of 1974, he married Deborah Perkins. They had their twin sons, Justin and Jason, in February of 1978. Ron loved being a father to his twin boys.

Ron married Dorie Morcomb May 27, 1982, and had two daughters, Robin and Melissa. He took great enjoyment in taking his kids to the rodeos both junior and high school. Most weekends you could find him helping and supporting his kids in and out of the arena. He took pride in his family and loved seeing them follow their dreams.

After retirement Ron and Dorie moved to Montana. Together they traveled and spent many hours in the kitchen cooking. Ron loved a good steak and drink! In later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching them participate in their favorite activities. Most recently the apple of his eye was his great granddaughter Oakley. He loved having her around and watching her grow.

Ron is preceded in death by his dad Pete and mom Margaret. He is survived by his wife Dorie Legler of Queen Creek, Arizona; his children Justin Legler of Arizona, Jason (Kari) Legler of Colorado, Robin Legler of Arizona and Melissa (Ryan) Siemsen of Texas; his sister Gail (Tom) Grogan of California; his nine grandchildren Coltin, Carlie, Cylee, Cooper of Arizona, Brayden and Cade of Colorado, Hesston of Arizona and Tylie and Royce of Texas; and one great granddaughter, Oakley of Arizona.

There will be a graveside celebration December 23 at 2 pm at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. Ron will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
