Our beloved Tyson was born on April 21, 1977 and passed away July 22, 2025 at the age of 48. Tyson was loved by all that knew him. To his family, he was not just loved, he was deeply treasured. His presence will be missed beyond words.

Tyson was born and raised in Mountain View, Alberta, where his love for family, sports, and horses began. No matter where life took him, Mountain View was always “home” and he carried it with him in his heart.

From the time he was little, it was clear Tyson had a gift for athletics. Whether it was basketball, football or baseball, he was an all-star. He was always calm under pressure, the one you wanted in the big moments. His talent earned him a full ride scholarship to play football for New Mexico Military Institute, where he played for one year.

After football, Tyson served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bordeaux, France, blessing the lives of many. Following his mission Tyson lived in various locations, always ready to follow new opportunities and experiences.

Tyson loved horses especially his horse Maxwell Tivios. He always took pride in how he trained him and how his horse was superior to the other horses on the ranch. His natural patience and calmness made him a gifted horseman. For a time, he trained horses at the world renowned Los Cedros Ranch in Scottsdale, something he was quietly proud of.

For most of his career Tyson worked as a journeyman electrician. He had a natural ability to do anything he set his mind to. He was smart and good at what he did. In his last job he jumped to supervisor quickly because of this.

What Tyson will be remembered for most is who he was. He was easygoing to the core, so easygoing, in fact, that his famously slow pace became a running family joke. Tyson never rushed through life; he took his time, and maybe that’s why people loved being around him so much. He was patient, kind, and thoughtful, especially to his mom. Tyson and his mom shared a love of the Phoenix Suns and could spend hours watching games together.

He loved sports of all kinds, horses, his Jeep, off-roading, and riding his motorcycle (though his mom wasn’t quite as fond of that one). But more than anything, Tyson loved his family. He was a loyal brother, a loving son, and one of the funniest people in the family; his humor was quick, subtle, and perfectly timed. He was private, humble, and selfless.

Tyson was the fourth of eight children, the quintessential middle child who never wanted to inconvenience anyone. He is survived by his parents, Lee and Jeannine Nelson, and his siblings Shawna, Heather (Mitch), Brad, Kimberly (Ben), Chantelle (Matyas), Devin (Natalie) and Alisha (Darren), along with many nieces and nephews.

Tyson will never be forgotten. His gentle nature and quiet humour will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and love will stay with all of us who were blessed to know him.
